Shatrughan Sinha accuses Big B of turning IIFA awards into ‘Bachchan Parivar Awards’

Last week, we shared the story around ‘Taare Zameen Par’ not been nominated for the IIFA awards, and Shatrughan Sinha is apparently so upset about the fact that he has accused Big B of driving the awards in his family’s favor.

“Sab kissika beta, kissiki bahu aur kissiki biwi,” which means that Big B is trying to ensure that the awards go to his son, daughter-in-law and wife, and wants ‘Guru’ to sweep away all the awards; so Big B has smartly taken care of the fact that TZP is out of the race.

Big B has not taken this statement lying low as he has accused Shatrughan Sinha of award fixing by influencing the National awards to honor Raveena Tandon when he was in power.

Shatru did strike back by saying, “I agree my hand was there in the award, but it was not like Mulayam’s feet, which was there in every award the Uttar Pradesh government has bestowed only on one family, and one can easily guess which family I am talking about.”

From the Bollywood arena the fight between the two legends has been moved to the national-n-political arena and this time, we can’t wait to see who wins the war of the titans.

Aamir Khan accepts the Dinanath Mangeshkar Award from Lataji, Mumbai

He may refuse the IIFA and the Stardust awards, but the professional Aamir specially flew down to Mumbai to collect his Dinanath Mangeshkar Award at the Shanmukhananda Hall at Sion in Mumbai.

Aamir, who is busy with his ‘Gajini’ shoot schedule in Hyderabad was severely injured during the shoot, but that did not stop the actor from flying down to Mumbai as he could not turn down the genuine gesture by Lata Mangeshkar whom he refers to as ‘Didi’.

Aamir was seen limping as he walked to the stage to receive the honor. While delivering his speech the honest actor confessed that he never learnt two languages, Urdu and Marathi as a kid so he would only be speaking in Hindi.

The actor expressed that even if he had hurt both his feet he would have come on the wheel chair to collect the award as he has high regards for this talented family and Lataji.

Lata Mangeshkar shared that she deeply pleased by Aamir’s compliments.

Shahrukh Khan at his ‘Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Teej Hain’ preview, Mumbai

He has been rehearsing for the shoot for weeks and it was a special moment for Shahrukh Khan as he checked out the preview of his ‘Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain?’.

The event was held at SRK’s favorite venue the Taj’s Land End hotel at Bandra, and the media was invited to take a sneak peak at the show before it goes on air this Friday.

King Khan shared his daily schedule which includes early morning homework sessions with his kids. When asked if IPL would conflict with the show TRPs, our witty King Khan expressed, “I would rather watch Kya Aap Paanchvi’.”

Salman grows a pony for ‘Dus Ka Dum’, is it a new summer trend in the making?

Salman Khan is quite the style icon in Bollywood as his every style statement turns out to be the latest fashion mantra not only among fans, but also among his fraternity starlets.

His diamond stud style was quickly picked by SRK, Upen Patel and Arjun Rampal. When Salman swooned all the girls by going shirtless, Bollywood stars followed suit so there were Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham and later, King Khan to flash their 6-pack abs.

His ‘Tere Naam’ hairdo got so popular among the masses that everyone from a cabbie to a security guard started wearing Sallu’s new look.

Hot Tulip Joshi goes golden for the ‘Runway’, Mumbai

The actress has shed all her inhibitions and Tulip Joshi has gone glam for her forthcoming movie ‘Runway’; our cameras were there to checkout Tulip as she shot for a movie sequence at the Mukesh Mills at Colaba in Mumbai.

The actress looked gorgeous dressed in a golden bikini top and skirt, and matching steps with her was debutante co-star Amarjeet.

Tulip is playing quite a bold character in the movie and is hoping that ‘Runway’ helps transform her image from being a cutie to a hottie.

Katrina Kaif rocks Royal Challengers

If SRK is dancing for Kolkata Knight Riders, Preity for Mohali King XI, Hrithik for Mumbai Indians then, our Kat is not far behind as her video for the IPL Royal Challengers team is finally out.

Based on source close to the production, it was extremely hot in the open grounds where the song video was being shot, and Katrina was shooting under a time crunch.

So, after shooting non-stop for hours, Kat suddenly went missing. Later an announcement was made that Kat had fainted as she was dehydrated and quite exerted from the shoot. Suddenly there was panic on the sets; Director Sanjay Gupta and choreographers Bosco-Caesar were totally baffled as they could not trace the actress on the huge ground.

After a couple of minutes, Katrina walked out laughing loud and to everyone’s surprise it turned out to be a prank played by Kat, who was responsible for making the announcement for fun.

Katrina, who is the face for the Royal Challengers team, will be portrayed as a Rock Diva. So let’s see if Kat is able to steal the show from Preity and Shahrukh.

‘Hello’ Anniversary cover with Ranbir and Celebutantes, Mumbai

UK’s leading magazine ‘Hello’ celebrated its anniversary bash, and Shilpa Shetty, who is considered the unofficial India-n-UK ambassador, was there to unveil the anniversary special issue. Shilpa was joined by socialite and journalist Shobha De to do the honors.

The cover features Ranbir Kapoor with 4 lovely ladies that form the new society; they are the ‘Celebutantes’, guess its time to move on from Rajpal and Dhody to generation next.

Champagne flowed at the Hilton Towers and everyone enjoyed caviar. Sunil Shetty sported a new look at the anniversary bash. The party was attended by the A-lister of Indian society; be it actors, royalty tycoons or socialites, all were at their best to greet their celebs friends and acquaintances with a, “Hello.”

Are arch-rivals Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone part of ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ with SRK?

Aditya Chopra’s ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ is turning out to be a hot topic as the entire Bollywood is eager to know, who will play the lead opposite Shahrukh Khan in the flick.

Sonam is to play Simran, a 16-year old in the movie, but later there were news of Aditya auditioning some teenagers in Chandigarh and had apparently also signed one for the role.

If that wasn’t confusing enough, based on an insider reports Deepika has been roped in to be a part of ‘RNBDJ’, not for the role of Simran, but for a character role and source share the actress has accepted the offer.

Last year during the release of ‘OSO’ and ‘Sawaariya’, Deepika was heard making outrageous statements about she not being a star kid like Sonam and that the model-turned-actress had earned it all on her credits. This was only the start as the two were supposedly also competing in their own subtle way to be Ranbir’s ‘Saawariya’ in real-life; and at least for now, it looks like Deepika won the Ranbir game.

So, it would be interesting to see how Shahrukh Khan manages to maintain peace between the two cats on the sets. SRK is known to be quite the pro negotiator after he turned out to be the only Bollywood star to successfully ease tensions between Kajol and Rani during ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, and then find a workaround to the conflict between Preity and Rani during KANK, and later even presented Priyanka and Bebo under the same roof for his ‘KBC’.

So we are sure getting the new-comers Deepika and Sonam to work well together on the movie sets would almost feel like a cake walk for King Khan, and it might not be surprising that by the end of the movie shoot, we hear the two Ranbir babes patch up and express, “Shahrukh ne bani di Jodi.”

Hindi movies have undergone a sea-change in terms of content. From crude, been there seen that, done to death kind of movies, to films with substance, the audience tastes have changed over the years. Even though we’ve have grown up on the staple diet of desi food, we’ve cultivated a taste for Italian, Chinese, Thai and Mexican cuisine.

The experience with TASHAN is like, you enter a posh restaurant, waiting for a sumptuous meal to be served, but what’s served on your plate is vada-pau. TASHAN takes you back to the 1970s Bollywood, when illogical situations, blood and gore, for no rhyme of reason, were the main ingredients that made the junta break into taalis. Sorry, the formula doesn’t work anymore!

Seriously, what was debutante director Vijay Krishna Acharya thinking when he wrote this apology of a script? It’s perfectly okay to revisit the classics and pay homage to the masala films of yore, but the new interpretation has to be contemporary, you need to change with the times.

The one thing that you realize after watching TASHAN is, no amount of gloss, glam and top notch stars can ever substitute for a riveting script. Great stars, great styling, great songs and great visuals work as long as the script is great.

So what’s the verdict then? If you genuinely miss the ‘Kamine, main tera khoon pee jaaonga’ and ‘Bhagwan ke liye mujhe maaf kardo’ kind of movies that dominated the 1970s, pick up a DVD of those hits instead. TASHAN is regressive cinema with a capital R.

A call centre executive Jimmy [Saif Ali Khan] is entrusted the responsibility of teaching English to a gangster, Bhaiyyaji [Anil Kapoor]. But Bhaiyyaji’s key help Pooja [Kareena Kapoor] uses Jimmy to swindle Bhaiyyaji of Rs. 25 crores. Obviously, Bhaiyajji wants his money back and also Jimmy and Pooja’s heads.

He settles for Bachchan Pande [Akshay Kumar] to carry out the job of tracing Pooja, once Jimmy surrenders himself to Bhaiyyaji. What happens next?

Actually, TASHAN starts off very well and the first hour unwinds at a feverish pace. Besides, there’re interesting twists and turns in this hour that make you jump with joy. Akshay’s entry in the movie is the turning point and the actor only takes the film to a new level.

Alas, the joy is short-lived. The writer-director goes completely off the mark and loses focus. Instead of coming to the point right away, what the writer does is makes you run in circles and circles. It’s like boarding a direct flight to London, but the pilot suddenly decides on having stopovers in Ahmedabad, Dubai, Budapest, Munich, Berlin, Amsterdam, before landing at London. You’re exasperated!

What ails the film? Various factors. The film goes on and on and on. Unwanted scenes, the outdated love angle, the lenggggggthy fight sequences [people showering Akshay and Saif with bullets, but, well, nothing happens], the confrontation between good and evil in the climax… you actually pinch yourself, were you watching the same movie in the first hour? Or did the reels get changed?

Another minus factor is Vishal-Shekhar’s music. Seems like the composers have run out of tunes and what they offer is best suited for the music systems in their cars only. With such impressive names on and off screen, the music directors should’ve ensured that they come up with tunes that remain etched in your memory… in this case, at least that could’ve been a redeeming aspect. But the music is awful. The picturisation of some songs is, however, quite eye-filling.

Debutante director Vijay Krishna Acharya seems to have taken the audience for granted. Cinematography is excellent. The locales are a visual treat. Dialogues are good at places.

TASHAN belongs to Akshay Kumar completely. No two opinions on that. Take Akshay out of this film and the movie is a big zero. He’s the lifeline of this project and his performance will be loved by elite and masses, both. Kareena Kapoor is fantastic. She looks gorgeous, acts very well [her role is similar to the one she essayed in FIDA] and yes, she carries off the bikini with élan.

Saif Ali Khan is relegated to the backseat. What did Saif see in this role? He’s hardly there in the second hour. Anil Kapoor entertains at the start, but after a point, the Hindi-English bhasha gets on your nerves. Also, it’s very difficult to decipher what he’s speaking most of the time.

On the whole, TASHAN is one of the weakest films to come out of the Yash Raj banner. This film has gloss aplenty, but no soul. At the box-office, the film will join the ranks of JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM, LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG and AAJA NACHLE sooner or later… Business in Overseas will also be weak despite a popular cast.
