Another Offering

*****

Here’s another concept design from a student at the European Institute of Design, Emre Husmen claims he based this representation around the Ferrari 599 Fiorano, but I think it looks more like a TVR than a Ferrari with the exaggerated curves.
I wont bore you with the ‘concept specs’, I’ll just say I saw it and thought it looked good.

What And Why

*****
With only a few days left until the doors open at the New York Auto Show and there is sure to be some suprises unvieled, of the ones I know will be making an appearance here is the top 3 vehicles I’ll be looking out for and why.

The Mercedes Bluetec Series

*****
Here is another of the world tops auto manufacturers releasing a new economically fuel efficient, and ‘greener’ engine. A diesel engine. A turbo-diesel engine that says ‘we’re not gonna mess with your treehugginhippy hybrid crap’ but we will address the problem of rising fuel costs and need for cleaner emissions.
They will deliver a 211hp / 398lb-ft of torque V6 with a new urea NOx treatment system, a solution stored in its own 7 gallon container only needing to be refilled every 15,000 miles is mixed with fuel to create Nitrogen and Water from engine NOx.

2010 Nissan Maxima Diesel

*****
Mainly because it’s another slap in the face for the hippies but also because I really like the direction Nissan have been going over the last few years and opting for a diesel engine is going to be another wise move. I will be interested to see expected mpg’s as it’s really the only down side to buying a Nissan.

The Scion Hako

*****
Because I am hoping with fingers crossed that it’s a production version of the Fuse concept that’s floated around a few auto shows over the past few years. Scion say they studied ‘global, youth-inspired trends’ as inspiration for this sportier concept, and just for info, they will press conference tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3:15pm ET and you can catch it at scion.com

It’s Always Better When It’s a Shelby

*****
Even though I’m not this biggest fan of Ford I do acknowledge that when you put Ford and Carroll Shelby together the results are usually something very special.
Ford announced they would most likely go ahead with this concept back in 2004, even offering up 605hp with 501lb-ft of torque as the specs we could expect from a 6.4L V10 powerplant and 0-60mph in 4 seconds.

“The Ford Shelby Cobra concept was a small step in our plans for the Ford GT architecture and our relationship with Carroll Shelby, and the Ford Shelby GR-1 is a giant leap toward the future”
- J. May Ford Motor Company group vice president of global design

So, It Will Go to Production

*****
Then MotorTrend had the scoop and the photos of the 2007 Ford Shelby GR-1 to be released at the end of ’06, MT had a MSRP of $130,000 and similar specs to the V10 only coming from a 90-degree 32v DOHC V8propelling a 3500lb coupe to 60mph in 3.9 second through a new 6-speed manual transmission.

“It’s gonna be up to Phil and me,” says Mays bluntly. “How badly do we want to do it?“

And Still Nothing

MotorTrend suggested:
If you want Ford to produce the Shelby GR-1, send your cards and letters to Bill Ford at The Ford Motor Company, The American Road, Dearborn, Michigan 48126-2798

The Uno
18-year-old Ben J. Poss Gulak invented The Uno. It caught our eyes because it’s a one wheeled-looking motorcycle, actually its balanced by two wheels set up side-by-side and its footpegs. Operation of the 54.4 kg (120 lb) machine is simple, in fact it’s so simple there are no controls except for an on-off switch. To go forward you simply push your body weight forward to tilt the machine. To back up, just lean back on the seat to tilt it backwards and back it goes.

Next year you can expect to see a new Bugatti Veyron driving around (not that you expect to see the regular one around that often). This latest version to be built is a Targa top. This will give the Veyron a removable hardtop roof.

The reason Bugatti went with the targa top version is due to the speed and safety of the beast. A true convertible was not possible because changes that would have to be made to the safety cage would not make it safe enough. When it pushes up to 1001 horse power, safety cannot be compromised.

No information has been made available about how many of the targa’s will be built, but I doubt it will be that many. As for the price? I don’t think it will really make a difference as it’s over a million dollars anyway.
