There are some DOS programs which requires some windows config settings to be changed for them to work properly. Mostly old computers have Windows 98 or Windows ME which by default used config.sys to read these settings. But the version of Windows released after Windows ME did not had config.sys file.
Thus most of the people had to unwillingly stick with old version of windows if their software making company did not released new version of their software for the next version of windows.
What we are actually doing is locating different windows config files in different OS. Suppose if you to change the below setting in the windows config file, below are the different locations & different file names for different Operating Systems:
| Windows Version | Filename | Location (Default windows directory location assumed as c:\windows\) |
| 98, ME | config.sys | c:\windows\ |
| 2000, Xp, Vista | config.nt | c:\windows\system32\ |
To edit these files, restart your system & keep pressing F5 in windows 98 or F8 key in Windows 2000 or later. Then select ‘Command Prompt or ‘Safe Mode with Command Prompt’. Now you will see a DOS screen. Type the below commands:
For windows 98, ME
cd\windows
edit config.sys
For Windows 2000, XP, Vista
cd\windows\system32
edit config.nt
A notepad like editor will open edit the settings you need to change & then save it & shut down the computer. Wait for 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Now you have successfully edited the config file of windows & you can use some of the old DOS software’s on newer version of Windows.
Most of us use utorrent for downloading torrents as it is one of the best and the lightest software for downloading torrents. As my broadband isn’t really fast I usually wait or sometimes I even play a game till the download gets completed if the file to be downloaded is small. Well if you are someone like me who waits till a torrent is downloaded then you can have some good fun playing Tetris in utorrent. Tetris in utorrent? Yeah, you heard it right. I’m pretty sure that hardly a few of us know that there’s a hidden brick game- uTris in utorrent! Well, some of the advanced users might know about it, but those of you who don’t know, here’s how you get it.

Start utorrent and go to Help> About utorrent… to get the above box.

Now press ‘T’ to get the Tetris/brick game.

Well there’s a cheat as well, just type ‘qweryuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmt’ and you should finish the game. Hmm… but why would anyone use this cheat? To win? I dont wanna win ![]()
Nowadays most of the email providers provide us with a lot of storage space. I use Gmail and I have around 7GB of storage space out of which I have hardly used 300Mb. I got hold of a software- “Backup To Email” which helps us to make good use of this vast storage space. Guess what? We can use an email account to backup our files. Sometimes if Firefox doesn’t close properly when you close it, the next time you start Firefox you’ll notice that some of your bookmarks have disappeared. The fact is that the bookmarks aren’t actually lost they’ll be still there. Firefox makes backup of your bookmarks automatically, hence you’ll be able to restore the backup. Here’s how you do it:

Go to Start > Run and type the following command. It will take you to the Firefox profile folder
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Search for the folder ‘bookmarkbackups’ and click on it. You’ll find the bookmarks that were backed up by Firefox automatically. Now copy the latest file after looking in to the date of the file and paste in on your desktop.

Now start Firefox and go to Bookmarks> Organize Bookmarks, in the new window that pops up go to File > Import > From File
Browse the file copied to your desktop earlier and Click Ok. Hopefully your bookmarks will be restored.
Dropped your cell phone in your wash basin, toilet, or got wet in rain? Well don’t worry; if you are fast you can save your phone. Just follow the below steps carefully:

Get it out of water:
First of all get it out of water as soon as possible. Well, if you are too late then it’s useless so you should be quick enough to remove it out.
Cut of the power supply:
The next thing is to switch off your phone. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial step in saving it. If there’s no power supply then many circuits inside will still be fine even though they are wet. If you go for switching it off by pressing the switch off button it will take time. So the best thing is to remove the battery so that it shuts down immediately.
Remove SIM and memory card:
Once the battery is removed, remove your SIM card, memory card. Well, SIM cards do survive water damage but to stay on the safer side it’s better to remove them immediately.
The drying process:
Now you can take your time to dry your phone. To start with you can shake it as much as possible so that the water comes off. Once you feel that you’re done, you can use a towel or paper towel to gently remove as much of the remaining water as possible.
Even after doing the above steps the cell phone isn’t dried up yet! Now you can use a vacuum cleaner to dry off the moisture. You can do this over affected areas for about 20-30 minutes. Make sure you avoid close contact of the phone with the vacuum. The main aim is to remove moisture from the phone and halt any oxidation from occurring deep inside, as it can result in functional issues later on.
After you’re done with the above, you can keep your phone in a bowl of uncooked rice over night. Bowl of rice? Well, don’t get surprised. Rice will absorb any remaining moisture in the phone.
Now use a tissue or a paper towel to check if there’s any moisture remaining in the phone. If you find that there’s some more moisture remaining then repeat the above process again.
Start the phone:
Once you’re sure that your phone is dry, connect the battery, SIM card and your memory card and start the phone. If it doesn’t start then remove the battery and connect it back again. If it still doesn’t work then there are chances that your battery is spoilt or some internal parts are damaged.
